April 19, 2015-Someone shared the Rainbow Eucalyptus on facebook and Dilara asked "Is it real?" And when I asked her if she wanted to put it on her blog, she said she wanted to put it on her art page. God's art.

SPOOL KNITTING! "Well, this is my flower that I made. And also, I made my owl out of felt. And both of them are easy."
(From Lydia: Today I had a fibromyalgia flare up. It is really great to get back to our regular homeschool schedule, if only for a couple of weeks. Dilara spent the first part of the morning on the bed with me, and later we went to McDonald's to eat and she played in the playplace for several hours. It was cold and wet outside today. This morning our activities included some pages of Saxon Math, playing a board game together, some interactive learning games on the computer, and Dilara learned how to spool knit. I tried to teacher her how to do this before, and also some crochet, but I think she did much better this time around. This first project, a flower, was a joint effort, but I am confident that she can spool knit independently. I looped the strand into a flower, according to her specifications, and sewed it together and onto the barrette. She cut the center out of felt and added "seeds" with a red ink pen. I think it is lovely. She got excited when I told her that maybe she can sell them online! She said, "I LOVE MONEY!" LOL.)

"Movies Are Art"
|
Aug. 8, 2014 I was surprised and impressed when she showed me how this pompom could look and move like a jellyfish. It was so cool that I wanted to get it on video and when I had it on video she said she wanted to put it on the blog. I asked her whether she wanted to put it on the main blog page or on an animals or science page. She said she wanted it on her "art" page, because "Movies are art." She's right! --Lydia

July 19, 2014 Dilara's bird made out of pipe cleaners. I was very impressed that she created this. It started when she was twisting 3 pipe cleaners together. I noticed that she had accidentally made a three strand braid and I told her I would show her how to make a three stranad braid "on purpose" and she wanted me to use the same colors she had. I got her started and she started braiding on her own and when she got near the bottom, she said it looked like a bird's foot. I unbraided the top of the strand a little ways and bent it in half and said, "Now it looks like TWO bird feet." I wonder if you can make a whole bird out of pipe cleaners, and this is what she did. Notice how she twisted a 'tail" and at the head, there is a long beak and feathers on the top of the head, "Like a peacock." She amazes me on a daily basis. She wanted me to put this both on her "Birds" page and her "Art" page----Lydia
July 18, 2014. Today was a short day. Didn't count as a school day. She had a swim lesson and when we got home she painted a cardboard 4- cup holder from McDonald's She turned it upside down and painted it and said it was a castle, but you could turn it the other way if you wanted it to be a cup holder. She also did a wonderful "Handprint Turkey" that was even more wonderful when she talked to me about it. She told me that when she made its eye, she made a bigger black dot than she meant to, so she made it "A Turkey With Sunglasses." She said, "It was just a mistake, but I turned it into something good." I told her that was a great attitude! She said, ""EVERY time I make a mistake, I turn it into something good!" I don't know if it is exactly a true statement, but it is a true intention, I think! She told me the other day (July 14), "Dilara said, "You know what I do when I mess up when I'm dancing? I make it a new dance move and make it part of the dance so I don't have to start over!" She did this 100% by herself (except that I got the paint and water cup out for her), and she did all cleanup, except for scrubbing the table, She threw the paper towels away that she had wiped her brushes on, washed out the water cup and brushes, and did such a good job! Next time, I'll have her scrub the table, too! This is "free art" but she ended up making a lesson out of it in the social/emotional development category!--Lydia
